How did Duncan Park get started?

The land that is now Duncan Park was officially donated on February 28, 1923. It is named for in memory of the father of the grantors, the late David R. Duncan.

On September 3, 1935 the City of Spartanburg signed a contract with the WPA to build Duncan Park lake.

In 1938 the WPA landscaped, graded, and beautified the park while also laying out a small 9 hole golf course.

This year Duncan Park is celebrating its 100th Anniversary!
